Although there are many ways to group the diversity of sustainability issues that face us today, GRI uses the conventional “three pillars” of sustainability – economic, environmental, and social – as a way to organize or group its Performance Indicators.

The Indicators are categorized under the three general sustainability topics: economic, environmental, and social. The social grouping is further broken down into Labor Practices and Decent Work, Human Rights, Society, and Product Responsibility – for a total of six Indicator Categories.

Each Indicator Category will be further broken down into several Indicator Aspects.
