2002 was a landmark year for GRI. Its Guidelines were released to international praise at the World Summit for Sustainable Development in Johannesburg that year. Also, GRI moved out from under the founding wing of Boston-based Ceres to incorporate as an independant institution located in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
Much of 2003 was spent settling into its new surroundings, building up the governance structure with the formation of the Stakeholder Council and the launch of the Organizational Stakeholder program, and the development of its work plan going forward.
