Committed leadership on sustainability and transparency are characteristics shared by recent winners of the “World’s Best Mayors” poll. City of Melbourne’s Lord Mayor John So and City of Amsterdam’s Mayor Job Cohen were voted the world’s # 1 and # 2 mayors, respectively.
Both have demonstrated continued leadership on sustainability and have historically positioned many sustainability issues at the forefront of their corporate and community goals.
Both the City of Melbourne and the City of Amsterdam are long-term supporters of the GRI. Amsterdam played co-host role in October’s conference marking the release of the G3 Guidelines, and the City of Melbourne hosts The Centre for Public Agency Sustainability Reporting – an institute co-founded by GRI that focuses on building capacity in public sector reporting.
Both cities produced their inaugural GRI-based sustainability reports this year.
The GRI congratulate Melbourne’s Lord Mayor John So and City of Amsterdam’s Mayor Job Cohen for their exemplary leadership – which is undoubtedly part of the leadership required to be part of the sustainability solutions in the future.
