The world’s first aggregated sustainability report

The sustainability performance of fruit producers and exporters from the Santiago region in Chile has been incorporated into the world’s first ever aggregated sustainability report issued by Valle del Maipo Chilean Fruit Company. The report was launched at the Business Social Responsibility Seminar organized by SOFOFA and Vincular in Chile on 28 November.

GRI has been working with Vincular on a project to encourage geographic clusters (groups) of SMEs from the same sector in emerging economies to produce a collaborative sustainability report. The aim of the project is for the SMEs to combine their efforts and aggregate their data to facilitate certain level of transparency without prohibitively burdening individual organisations. This report will also facilitate access new markets, in this case supermarkets in Europe.

Fruit producers and exporters from the Santiago Region were the first SME cluster to participate in the project and their involvement was financed by the Multi lateral Investment Fund from the Inter America Development Bank (FOMIN/BID) and CORFO (The Chilean Regional Development Agency).

While Valle del Maipo Chilean Fruit Company issued an aggregated report, another 13 SMEs in the region from the fruit producing, wine and manufacturing sectors also produced individual reports as part of the project.
