The role of business in biodiversity conservation was the subject of a high level conference convened by EU Council and European Commission as part of the Portuguese Presidency in Lisbon, mid November. At the event GRI’s Deputy Chief Executive Teresa Fogelberg chaired a workshop on Business Related Biodiversity Assessments and delivered a presentation on the same theme. The workshop dealt with business related biodiversity assessment tools, including indicators from the GRI G3 Guidelines, to understand, address and communicate the environmental impacts of businesses and their mitigation.
The 400 conference participants from business, governments, the European Union and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) called for continued engagement on business and biodiversity in a “Message from Lisbon” which was issued on the final day of the gathering.
