Communication with the citizens of cities, countries or regions affected by public regulations is only one reason why Public Agencies are asked to engage in GRI sustainability reporting. GRI has recently examined the use of the Sector Supplement for Public Agencies (pilot version, 2005), and the findings of this research are presented in the new GRI Research Publication ‘GRI Reporting in Government Agencies’.
The report presents an overview of sustainability reporting in the sector and examines a sample of reports to assess the level of reporting on the Supplement items. The research shows that sustainability reporting in the public sector is still in its infancy compared to other sectors and that reporting with the Supplement is fragmented.
This research will be used as a resource for future work on the GRI Public Agencies Sector Supplement, which is currently available in pilot version.
