SAY HELLO TO UNOPS
05 October 2015

Organizational Stakeholders (OS) provide valuable support for GRI: they contribute their expertise, play an important governance role, and invest through annual financial contributions.

This month, GRI warmly welcomes United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS) to the Organizational Stakeholder (OS) Program. UNOPS is an operational arm of the United Nations, supporting the successful implementation of its partners’ peacebuilding, humanitarian and development projects around the world.

UNOPS’ mission is to expand the ability of the United Nations, governments and other partners to manage projects, infrastructure and procurement in a sustainable and efficient manner. UNOPS was established in 1973 as part of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and now has over 7,000 personnel spread across 80 countries around the world.

Rodel Urmatan, Programme Manager at UNOPS in Copenhagen, Denmark, explains why UNOPS decided to join the OS Program:

“We are pleased to announce that our first-ever sustainability report using the principles of GRI G4 Guidelines will be published in 2016. Joining the GRI OS Program will enable UNOPS to leverage our experience and to share our success with the entire industry. It will also help strengthen and widen the participation of our non-governmental and inter-governmental partners in sustainability reporting – expanding GRI’s reach and influence in the non-profit industry.

In anticipation of UNOPS participating in the OS Program, Rodel Urmatan further states:

"Developing capacity through knowledge exchange and the sharing of lessons learned from GRI with our industry peers are some of the things we are hoping to gain from the program. UNOPS has just initiated its sustainability journey with GRI and we expect a fruitful partnership ahead as we join thousands of organizations around the world in helping to create a more sustainable economy and a peaceful, healthy world for generations to come.”

GRI also warmly welcomes the following organizations, which joined the OS Program in September:

Instituto Infraero de Seguridade Social – INFRAPREV - Brazil
Skytop Strategies - USA
