The General Council of the Catalan Chambers of Commerce has been very active in promoting sustainability within small and medium sized enterprises based in Catalonia. Over 99 percent of Catalonian businesses are small and medium enterprises. These small and medium enterprises have played a pivotal role in the development of the Catalan economy and society. To continue down this proactive path of elevating local industry to a higher performance level, the General Council joined GRI’s Business Transparency Program during 2011 via their program TRanSparEncia
. The General Council selected 11 large companies that identified the locally based small and medium enterprises within their supply chain. Read more about their experiences in the leaflet of this project - Teaching Transparency
More than 60 small and medium enterprises have joined the Program at the invitation of their larger customers listed in the table below. For GRI, the Program was exciting: it involved large companies and small and medium suppliers representing many different industries.This project was funded by the Catalan Occupation Service (Servei d'Ocupacio de Catalunya, SOC) and the European Social Fund.
