Development of a Sector Standard - oil, gas, and coal
The GSSB has initiated a project to develop a GRI Sector Standard for the oil, gas, and coal sector. This sector has been prioritized because it has widely documented impacts across the economic, environmental, and social dimensions, such as impacts on climate change, biodiversity, and human rights.
The oil, gas, and coal sector project aims to identify and describe the sector’s significant impacts and stakeholder concerns from a sustainable development perspective. The resulting Sector Standard will provide support for companies as they conduct their own materiality process.
The project will follow the GSSB’s Due Process Protocol, the implementation of which will be overseen by the Due Process Oversight Committee. In line with this protocol, a multi-stakeholder Project Working Group will be formed to develop draft recommendations for the project. Further information can be found in the project proposal.
