GRI in ASEAN

Based in Singapore and established with the help of a Consortium of 12 leading Singapore-based organizations operating across the region, GRI ASEAN provides guidance and support to organizations as they progress on their sustainability journey to better communicate and improve sustainability performance.

We liaise with governments, capital markets, civil society and others to support and underpin high-quality sustainability reporting and ESG disclosure.

6th webinar in the GRI Expert Series: Building Leadership for Sustainable Businesses

Because of their sheer complexity and magnitude, supply chains are vulnerable to and rife with fraud, misconduct, and violations. There is no shortage of regulations that seek to restrict supply chain misconduct, i.e., anti-modern slavery and child labor laws, environmental protection regulations, anti-bribery and corruption provisions, and yet legal violations persist in the supply chain. With our distinguished lineup of guest speakers, this webinar will discuss why and how procurement managers and supply chain management could be the vital missing link to corporate sustainability.

Current programs

Our work to advance the practice of sustainability reporting in the region is made possible with the support of our generous donors - the Australian Department for Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT), the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Swiss Confederation’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). Currently, our focus is on the following programs:

Our work with stock exchanges and regulators

Under the Sustainable Trade and Investment through Reporting program, we continue our important work with stock exchanges and regulators in Indonesia and the Philippines to drive uptake of sustainability reporting.

Driving business engagement on sustainability reporting

With support from SECO, we are running several initiatives to support businesses with sustainability reporting. Multi-stakeholder collaboration is a huge part of this work.

Across the region, we work closely with the ASEAN SMEs Academy and the ASEAN University Network (the Business Education and the ASEAN Economic Community theme group).

More specifically, in Indonesia, we are working with the Ministry of Trade in engaging 10,000 micro, small & medium enterprises with sustainability reporting by 2024. We have also initiated the Indonesia Sustainability Education Network in partnership with local universities to facilitate knowledge exchange.

In the Philippines, we are actively working with the private sector to integrate the SDGs into reporting and are also conducting a series of capacity-building workshops in partnership with the Philippine Swiss Business Council (PSBC).

ASEAN Office Consortium

Our consortium is a diverse set of Singapore-headquartered companies that help us raise GRI’s regional profile. We work together to leverage their track record in sustainability reporting, share best practices and provide learning opportunities.

The consortium includes the Singapore Stock Exchange, CDL and CapitaLand (real estate and development), Sembcorp and Keppel (energy and utility), DBS (banking), consulting firms TCS, PwC, KPMG and EY, as well as thought leadership organizations Stewardship Asia and Global Compact Network Singapore.
